This is fashion

Gayla Bentley made an impression Tuesday on ABC’s Shark Tank. She’s a big lady with big ideas: to create the first globally successful luxury fashion line for women of size 12 or larger. And now it seems that she’s got the investment she needs, you will be hearing a lot from her.

Jason Cochran talked to Bentley about her success in obtaining the investment she needed to bring her garments to a wider market. The designer mentioned 60% of women in America wear size 12 or above, and boy does she want a piece of that market.

Bentley asked first for the Sharks wisdom and experience. “What about the money?” O’Leary piped in. Oh, yes, she also wanted $250,000 for 20% of her company. Kevin O’Leary wasted no time in putting his foot in it by asking if larger women really cared about fashion.

John and Corcoran joined forces and offered to partner in Bentley’s company, keeping half the company instead of the 20% she originally pitched, Bentley said she wanted to keep creative control, and that she would rather keep 55% but Bentley was talked 50-50 and she could retain creative control.
